Wedding and Banquet Hall Security Guests Barely Notice

Discreet officers who manage the door, protect the gift table and handle problems before they reach the dance floor.

Private celebrations draw large crowds, open bars and a lot of cash in one room. In September 2025, a stranger walked into a wedding reception at a Glendale event venue, mingled with guests for about two hours, then left through a back alley with the couple's gift box, which they estimate held up to $100,000 in cash and checks. In 2022, an argument at an engagement party at a Northridge banquet hall moved outside and ended with a guest fatally shot.

Venues and hosts face the same pattern: uninvited guests, disputes fueled by alcohol, and parking lots where nobody is watching. Blackout places licensed officers at the entrance to check guest lists, watches the gift and card table, keeps an eye on the bar, and covers the parking lot through the end of the night. Officers dress to fit the event, uniform or plain clothes, so the celebration stays the focus.

What we protect against
  • Wedding crashers and gift box or card box theft
  • Disputes between guests that escalate with alcohol
  • Uninvited guests and party crashers at large family events
  • Parking lot vehicle break ins during the reception
  • Violence spilling outside at the end of the night
What we provide
  • Entrance control with guest list or wristband checks
  • Dedicated watch on the gift, card and envelope table
  • Bar area monitoring and early intervention on intoxicated guests
  • Parking lot coverage during and after the event
  • Escort of gifts, cash and valuables to the host's vehicle
  • Coordination with the venue manager and DJ for last call and closing
  • Incident report for the venue and host
Rules and requirements
  • Contract security guards must hold a BSIS guard card and complete Power to Arrest and security officer skills training. Armed guards also need a BSIS firearms permit to carry an exposed firearm on duty.

Example program with more than one officer

Example for a 300 guest Saturday reception from 6 pm to midnight: one unarmed guard at the entrance with the guest list, one plain clothes off duty officer inside watching the gift table, bar and dance floor, and one unarmed guard in the parking lot from 8 pm until the last guest leaves. The gift box is escorted to the host's vehicle at the end of the night.

Armed, unarmed, or off duty: which fits?

Questions we get

Can security officers wear suits instead of uniforms?

Yes. Many hosts prefer plain clothes officers who blend in with guests. We set dress code by post.

How do you protect the gift or card box?

One officer is assigned to watch the table, the box stays in view or is locked, and we escort it to the host's car at the end of the night.

Do venues require security for some events?

Many venues do, especially for larger parties or events with alcohol. We staff to the venue's written requirements and provide proof of license and insurance.

Which officers fit

Most sites need one officer type. Larger sites and events sometimes use more than one.

Unarmed guards

Primary

Unarmed guards fit most weddings and banquets for guest list checks, gift table watch, bar oversight and parking.

Armed guards

Common

An armed officer fits large events with known family disputes, high value displays, or late events in areas with a history of violence.

Off duty police officers

Common

Off duty or retired law enforcement fits events where hosts want plain clothes officers who blend in and handle conflicts with experience.
