Off duty police officers, from a company owned and operated by one.
Some assignments need more than a guard card.
- Lowest cost per hour. You get more hours or more posts for the same budget, which matters most for overnight and daily coverage.
- Presence stops most problems. Most theft, trespass, and vandalism is opportunistic. A uniformed officer clearly checking the property sends those people elsewhere.
- Built for people facing posts. Gates, lobbies, front desks, and events need someone who greets guests, checks IDs, keeps logs, and stays polite with residents.
- State trained and screened. Every guard holds a BSIS guard card, passed a DOJ and FBI fingerprint check, and completes 40 hours of state training plus 8 hours every year.
- Every round is proven. Officers scan checkpoints, log GPS routes, and photograph conditions on our accountability platform, so you know the rounds happened.
- Observe, report, call it in. They document incidents in detail and call police with clear information instead of escalating, which keeps liability low.
- A deterrent robbers notice. Robbery crews look for easy targets. A visible armed officer at the door is often enough to send them somewhere else.
- Posted where money and product move. Opening, closing, cash counts, deposits, deliveries, and display or vault areas, the moments when most robberies happen.
- Protects people until police arrive. In an armed robbery or violent incident, police can be minutes away. An armed officer can protect staff and customers in that gap.
- State permitted and range qualified. Each holds a guard card and a California firearm permit from BSIS, passed a DOJ and FBI fingerprint check, and requalifies on the range to keep the permit.
- Trained on when not to shoot. State firearm training covers the law on use of force. Most incidents end with presence and words, not a weapon.
- Costs less than off duty police. Armed guards cover real robbery risk at a lower rate than off duty officers, which keeps daily coverage affordable.
Off duty and retired law enforcement officers bring years of street experience, training in de-escalation and use of force, and the judgment that only comes from handling real calls. We staff them for estates, celebrity and executive clients, private events, and high risk commercial posts.
Why clients ask for off duty officers
- They have already passed a full peace officer background investigation, which is far deeper than a standard security screening.
- They recognize pre attack behavior, surveillance, and casing, because they have seen it before.
- They write reports that hold up with insurers, attorneys, and the police department that takes the case.
- They know how to work with responding agencies, which shortens the time from incident to arrest.
Where we place them
- Estate and residential security for high net worth and high profile families.
- Private events where guests expect discretion and the host expects nothing to go wrong.
- Armed driver and escort assignments.
- Jewelry, luxury retail, cannabis, and other high value commercial posts.
- Short notice coverage after a threat, a break in, or a public incident.
How we keep it compliant
- Officers work under our private patrol license, PPO #122466, and hold the registrations California requires for the post.
- We do not use department uniforms, badges, or patrol style vehicles. Our officers represent Blackout, not their agency.
- Armed assignments are staffed only with officers authorized to carry for that post.

Questions we get
Are these on duty police?
No. They are active or retired peace officers working private assignments on their own time through Blackout. They do not act with police authority on your property, and they are not a substitute for calling 911.
Can I request plain clothes?
Yes. Most estate and executive clients prefer business attire or plain clothes. Uniformed posts are available when visible deterrence is the goal.
How much notice do you need?
For ongoing programs, about a week to match the right officers. For urgent coverage, call us. Same day and next day placements are often possible.
Do off duty officers cost more than guards?
Yes, because the experience costs more. We will tell you honestly when a licensed guard is enough and when an officer is worth it.
