Hire Off Duty Police Officers in Orange County
Current and retired sworn officers for the posts where judgment and clean reporting matter most, staffed by a company owned by an active sworn law enforcement officer.
Orange County businesses know the value of a police presence. Newport Beach publishes an hourly fee schedule for police officers and sergeants at special events, and Anaheim assigns a Resort Policing Team to the Disneyland Resort with its hours billed to Disney under a city contract. Most property owners cannot buy that arrangement directly.
More detail
Blackout Security Services is owned by an active sworn law enforcement officer and staffs assignments with current and retired peace officers alongside licensed armed guards. California requires officers who work security through a private patrol operator to register with the Bureau of Security and Investigative Services. Full time peace officers skip the fingerprint step and can begin once the application and proof of status are filed, and each officer's own agency must approve the outside work.
On a Blackout post the officer works as licensed private security, not on duty police. They observe, deter, document and contact the agency of jurisdiction, which in Orange County may be a city department like Anaheim, Irvine or Newport Beach, or the Sheriff's Department, which provides police services under contract to cities including Dana Point, Lake Forest, Mission Viejo, San Clemente and Yorba Linda. Officers work on our proprietary accountability platform with NFC checkpoint scans, geofencing, GPS tracking and real time incident logging, and you receive a documented report for each service period.

Questions we get
Can an off duty officer arrest someone at my business?
While on a Blackout post the officer acts as licensed private security, not as an on duty officer, and does not bring police authority onto your property. We observe, deter, document and call the local police or Sheriff, then support that response with video, witness details and a written report.
Is this the same as hiring officers directly from my city?
No. Some cities, like Newport Beach, publish rates for police at permitted special events, and those requests go through the city. We provide off duty and retired officers working as private security for your property or event, which is available for routine needs the city program is not designed for.
Will the officer wear a police uniform?
No. California law allows agencies to restrict the use of their badge, uniform and the prestige of the position for private work, and state regulators have suspended a patrol firm whose uniforms and vehicles resembled law enforcement. Our officers wear Blackout uniforms or plain clothes.
What makes off duty officers cost more than guards?
You are paying for sworn experience, so the rate sits above a licensed guard. Other drivers include minimum shift blocks, overtime after eight hours, holidays, short notice and armed versus unarmed posts. Pairing one officer at peak times with licensed guards keeps the total down.
