Construction and Fire Rebuild Site Security in Los Angeles
Overnight guards and patrol checks for job sites and fire rebuilds in the Palisades, Malibu and Altadena, with photo documented proof of every visit.
The January 2025 fires turned Los Angeles into one of the largest rebuild zones in the country. The Palisades Fire destroyed 6,837 structures and the Eaton Fire destroyed 9,418, and rebuilding will run for years: a POLITICO analysis in April 2026 found owners of fewer than half of the roughly 9,900 lots where homes were destroyed had even applied for permits. Malibu issued its 100th rebuild permit in September 2026.
More detail
Those sites hold tools, copper, lumber and equipment in dark, sparsely populated areas. In the Palisades, contractors lost about $13,500 in tools from a smashed window, $10,000 from a cut storage container lock and $6,450 from a forced gate and container, and one resident told the Westside Current that everyone has hired private security. In Altadena, contractors lost roughly $16,000 in tools near where the Eaton Fire started.
LAPD's own advice to rebuild owners includes regular checks, lit and camera monitored storage and GPS trackers on equipment. Blackout Security Services provides overnight guards, armed posts for high value sites and patrol routes that check several lots per night. Officers work on our proprietary accountability platform with NFC checkpoint scans, geofencing, GPS tracking and real time incident logging, and you receive a documented report for each service period.

Why Los Angeles job sites get hit
- Burn areas are dark, with many lots still lacking power and neighbors still displaced
- Thieves cut container locks and force gates, according to theft reports in the Palisades
- Copper theft is a citywide problem; the city formed a Heavy Metal Task Force in 2024
- Sites sit empty from late afternoon until morning and all weekend

Questions we get
Is a full time guard or a patrol route better for a rebuild lot?
For a single high value site with framing, copper or appliances on hand, an overnight post is the strongest deterrent. For owners or builders with several lots, randomized patrol checks across all of them usually cost far less than a post at each one. Many projects start with patrol and add a post during the highest value phases.
Who responds to a break in at my Palisades or Altadena site?
Pacific Palisades is in the City of Los Angeles and served by LAPD. Altadena is unincorporated and covered by the Sheriff's Altadena Station, and Malibu contracts with the Sheriff's Malibu/Lost Hills Station. Our officers call the right agency, document what they see and send you photos right away.
What drives the cost of construction site security in Los Angeles?
Overnight versus patrol coverage, armed or unarmed officers, how many lots are covered, weekend and holiday hours, project length and the local wage floor ($18.42 in the City of Los Angeles and $18.47 in unincorporated areas like Altadena since July 1, 2026). Builders who bundle several lots on one route lower their per site cost.
Can your reports help with insurance claims?
Yes. Each visit is time stamped with checkpoint scans and photos, and incidents are logged in real time. The documented report for each service period gives your insurer and contractor a clear record of when the site was checked and what was found.
